The problem

The headlines do not come from bad actors. They come from a crew member's Instagram story. A catering team's group chat. A badge photo that was never supposed to be posted. Or a hotel Wi-Fi router that was compromised six months before your event arrived.

In 2026, secure event production is not a premium feature. It is the minimum bar for defense contractors, federal agencies, pharma R&D teams, financial leaders, and high-profile individuals who cannot afford a single leak. Social listening has collapsed the cost of surveillance. Opposition research is a subscription. Every smartphone on every crew is a radio, a camera, a microphone, and a publishing platform. And the venue network your event is running on? It was not designed for your threat model.

Decibel Secure is the dedicated secure event production practice within Decibel Events. Seventeen years and more than 760 events in, we have produced the Library of Congress National Book Festival, AUSA trade show programs for DSCA, and a full slate of work for federal agencies, Fortune 500 clients, and global associations. Now we are applying that same senior-led, boutique production model to the events that cannot afford to leak.

The approach

When the Room Cannot Leak

Most event production companies talk about confidentiality as a posture. We treat it as an engineering problem.

A standard corporate event has twenty to forty people on the production crew, each arriving with a personal smartphone, each with a personal social presence, each one hour from posting a photo that identifies the client, the venue, the guest list, or the subject matter. None of them are trying to do harm. The leak surface is structural.

A Decibel Secure event eliminates that surface. Every person on site, from the executive producer to the A2 assistant, operates under a signed NDA with defined penalties. Personal devices are checked in at entry, placed in Faraday pouches, or left outside the credentialed perimeter entirely. Attendee arrivals pass through metal detection and badge verification. Photography and video are pre-cleared and executed only by contracted Decibel crew, never ad-hoc by attendees. The event is produced, captured when the client requires it, and then it goes dark. No social posts. No case studies. No leaks.

The capability stack

What a Decibel Secure Event Includes

Every Secure engagement is scoped to the specific threat model, but the capability stack is consistent. These are the seven pillars that define the service.

Pillar 01

Cleared & NDA-Bound Crew

Every Decibel Secure crew member signs a project-specific NDA before site visit begins. For federal and defense work, we source personnel with active security clearances at the level the engagement requires. Our small-team model is a feature here, not a limitation. Clients work with a known, named, vetted group of senior producers and technical directors, not a rotating pool of freelancers.

Pillar 02

Device Control & Faraday Protocol

Phones, smartwatches, tablets, and any wearable with a radio are controlled at entry. Options include signal-blocking Faraday pouches at check-in, full device surrender to lockers with credentialed retrieval, or no-device credential zones inside the venue. The protocol is selected to match the client's threat model. Decibel manages the inventory, the intake workflow, and the chain of custody.

Pillar 03 · Your network, not theirs

Your event is secure. The hotel network is not.

Your network, not theirs.

For more than a decade, state-sponsored threat actors have targeted hotel and conference Wi-Fi as a way to reach the people using it. The threat is documented, named, and ongoing.

DarkHotel APT (Kaspersky · 2014)

A multi-year espionage campaign compromising luxury hotel Wi-Fi to target defense, pharmaceutical, electronics, and energy executives.

APT28 / FancyBear (FireEye · 2017)

Attributed to the Russian GRU. Coordinated hotel Wi-Fi attacks across seven European countries, harvesting credentials from business travelers.

Operation Masquerade (FBI/NSA · 2026)

Joint advisory warning APT28 compromised 18,000+ routers globally, providing persistent access into 200+ organizations.

Decibel Secure builds and deploys a dedicated private network for your event. Enterprise-grade firewalls, segmented VLANs, managed access. Your event traffic never touches the venue's public infrastructure.

Pillar 04

Venue Security & Badged Entry

Metal detection at access points. Layered badging with visually distinct access tiers — executive, staff, vendor, talent, press. Pre-credentialed attendee manifests. Coordinated entry and egress timing to prevent tailgating. Access revocation protocols for any attendee who leaves and reenters.

Pillar 05

Information Discipline

No attendee social media from inside the venue. No personal photography. No live streaming. Any capture that happens is executed by a pre-cleared Decibel production crew under the client's content approval workflow. Staff, venue partners, catering and AV subcontractors all sign the same NDA framework.

Pillar 06

Executive Protection Coordination

Decibel does not replace the client's executive protection team. We integrate with it. Advance site surveys with EP leads, coordinated transportation timing, backstage and green room access control, and real-time communication channels during the event. For clients without an existing EP provider, we coordinate introductions to vetted partners.

Pillar 07

Government-Ready Contracting

Decibel holds GSA Schedule contract 47QRAA22D0079 and is registered with UEI L5D5MMNWMAG6 and CAGE code 4ZDH7. Primary NAICS 561920. For defense and federal buyers, that means our contracting paperwork is already in place. There is no six-week vendor onboarding delay.

Who we work with

Built for Five Industries That Cannot Afford a Leak

The capability stack is identical across all five. The language and entry points differ.

Primary

Defense & Defense Tech

Program reviews, capability demonstrations, executive offsites, partner engagement events, capture strategy sessions, and investor days for defense technology companies. We understand the contracting vocabulary, security posture, and operational rhythm of primes, subs, and the new generation of defense-tech companies.

GSA Schedule

Federal Agencies & DoD

Interagency meetings, industry outreach events, partner coordination summits, and executive offsites. Our portfolio includes the Library of Congress, SBA, Department of Energy, DoD, and DHS-adjacent work. GSA Schedule is active and under contract vehicle.

MNPI Events

Financial Services & M&A

Investor days, LP meetings, acquisition announcement events, earnings preparation summits, and internal strategy offsites. When information in the room is material and non-public, the event production vendor is part of the compliance perimeter.

R&D Summits

Pharma & Life Sciences

Investigator meetings, advisory board sessions, pre-launch strategy events, and confidential R&D summits. We integrate with the client's existing compliance workflow and bring physical production protocols to match CDA frameworks and FDA-sensitive content control.

Private

UHNW & High-Profile

Private celebrity performances, milestone events for founders and executives, family office gatherings, and invitation-only cultural events. The buyer is different. The capability stack is identical. Talent representation and personal security teams work with a single production partner who already operates to the standard they require.

The process

How Decibel Secure Works

Secure engagements follow the same four-phase Decibel production process, with additional protocol layers at every phase.

01

Confidential Discovery

Initial conversations happen under a mutual NDA. We scope the event, identify the threat model, and align on the protocol tier. Discovery is conducted in client-approved channels, not over open email. For federal engagements, we verify contract vehicle and security requirements at this stage.

02

Pre-Production

Site advance, vendor credentialing, NDA execution across every subcontractor, device control protocol design, access tier mapping, credentialing workflow build, and integration with client security and EP teams. Every element of the production plan is documented and approved before it is executed.

03

Onsite Production

Senior Decibel leadership is on site for the entire engagement. Crew operates under the agreed protocol. Device intake, badge verification, credentialed zones, and information discipline are enforced throughout. Real-time coordination with client security is continuous.

04

Post-Production

Controlled content delivery, chain-of-custody documentation, device return or sanitization, post-event debrief with client security leads, and full capture archive handoff under the client's retention policy. Nothing Decibel captured lives on a Decibel server longer than the client requires.

FAQs

Frequently asked QUESTIONS

What is secure event production?

Every Secure engagement is scoped to the specific threat model, but the capability stack is consistent. These are the seven pillars that define the service.

No. SCIFs are ICD 705 compliant facilities constructed by specialized facility firms and accredited by the federal government. Decibel Secure produces events inside client-selected venues, which may or may not include SCIF space. We partner with SCIF construction firms where a client requires new accredited space, and we produce the event experience inside the accredited environment.

Every Decibel crew member signs a project-specific NDA. For engagements that require personnel with active security clearances, we source cleared crew to the level the engagement requires. Not every secure event requires cleared staff. Every secure event requires NDA-bound staff.

Based on the client's threat model, we deploy one of three protocols: Faraday pouches issued at check-in and returned at departure, full device surrender to secured lockers with credentialed retrieval, or no-device-allowed credential zones. Decibel manages the inventory, intake workflow, and chain of custody.

No, and that is not a theoretical concern. The Kaspersky DarkHotel research campaign documented years of targeted espionage conducted through luxury hotel Wi-Fi against defense, pharmaceutical, and energy industry executives. A 2017 FireEye report attributed a coordinated hotel Wi-Fi attack campaign across seven European countries to APT28, the Russian GRU unit. More recently, the FBI and allied intelligence services warned about a large-scale APT28 router compromise campaign affecting hundreds of organizations. For a Decibel Secure event, we deploy a dedicated private network with enterprise-grade firewalls, segmented VLANs, and managed access. Your event traffic never touches the venue's public infrastructure.

Yes. Decibel is headquartered in Washington DC and regularly produces events across the United States, including New York, Austin, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Miami, as well as international work in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and London. The Secure Event Production service is national and international in scope.

Secure events are scoped to the specific protocol tier required. Pricing reflects the additional work of NDA administration, cleared personnel sourcing, Faraday inventory and sanitization, credentialing workflow, and security coordination. Most Secure engagements fall in the $250,000 to $1,000,000+ range. We provide transparent, itemized proposals after initial discovery.
